Virus Facts/Preventive Measures

Individuals can carry and shed the virus and infect others through respiratory droplets without showing any of the typical symptoms. The virus is easily spread.

Follow these guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health:

Maintain social distance of at least six feet, going out only for critical needs (groceries and medicines) and for exercising (outdoors in open space).

Wear a cloth mask when going out, especially if six feet social distance cannot be maintained.

Create a barrier between you and a surface shared by the public by wearing gloves or using disinfect wipes, paper towels, or other sturdy disposable items that may be available.

Avoid contact with people who are sick.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Sneeze and cough into the inside of your elbow or a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.
