Our Services During the Emergency and Reopening

During this unprecedented challenge as we all deal with COVID-19, a number of LOWLINC member services that involve close contact or venturing out were necessarily curtailed in accordance with state and LOW guidelines. However, as Virginia's phased reopening has occurred, we have resumed most LOWLINC services that we can safely provide in accordance with state and local guidelines. Members should call 855-569-5462 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday – Friday, to discuss or request these services.

Transportation Services. Beginning June 10, we resumed medical transportation services to destinations within a 25-mile radius of LOW, including Fredericksburg, Orange and Culpeper.  On July 10, we resumed non-medical transportation to local destinations, within a 10-mile radius of LOW, bordered by Harrison Crossing, Locust Grove Town Center, and Walmart.  Accompanying members for shopping and errands resumed September 28. We ask members to limit requests to two transports per week and provide two days' notice. We have procedures in place to help both members and volunteers stay safe, including both member and volunteer wearing face coverings, and having the member sit in the back passenger side of the car.

Social Engagement.
We regret that LOWLINC social activities and events have been cancelled until the crisis has passed. Continuing the connections with your LOWLINC friends is more important than ever as we stay in our homes to keep ourselves safe and slow the spread of the virus. We cannot gather for social activities just now, but we can connect in different and creative ways. We have some services in place already and are always looking into how we can make more available. LOWLINC social engagement programs are available to members and volunteers alike. If something here appeals to you, give us a call at 855-569-5462. Suggestions are welcome!
Friendly Visits. During Phase One Reopening, we resumed in-person friendly visits outside.  With Phase Three, beginning July 1, we resumed in-home visits. These visits, during which a volunteer visits a member at home, are limited to two hours, once a week, 9:30 am - 4 pm. Six feet of social distance must be maintained.

Visits by Phone. Several LOWLINC members and volunteers have enjoyed scheduled phone calls for years. The calls can happen daily, every other day, weekly...whatever you decide. The calls can be a quick How ya doin’ or longer conversations in which you talk about and solve the problems of the world…it’s up to you. If you would like to start having visits by phone, call 855-569-5462. If you’ve developed a relationship with someone in particular and would like to get in touch with them, let us know.

Walking. Members who are mobile may wish to get outside for a stroll in their neighborhood. Walking is a great way to escape the confines of the house, and get some fresh air and a little exercise. If you’d like some company as you walk, let us know by calling 855-569-5462.

LOWLINC Talk Line. We are scheduling weekly Talk Line discussions using our video and phone conference line.  These discussions take place Wednesdays at 1:30 pm, and both members and volunteers are invited to participate. The topic for each week's discussion and information on connecting via computer, tablet or phone are included in the regular Friday email to members and volunteers. At least one LOWLINC Board member will always be on the call to answer questions, provide clarifications, take suggestions.

Grocery Shopping and Delivery. Volunteers can help members place an online order for groceries at the local Food Lion or Walmart, which the volunteer will pick up and deliver. The volunteer will leave the order on the member’s porch, or bring the order inside if requested.
