LOWLINC Speaker Series: Writing for Your Health Workshop
LOWLINC is going “virtual” with its May Speaker Series with a presentation that’s tailor-made for these unprecedented times we are living through. We are going to be talking about the tremendous health benefits that can be gained from…writing.
Most of us think of writing as work. We write on deadline, for a grade, to compete or publish. But what if writing is play? What if writing brings pleasure, satisfaction and meaning? What if the act of writing makes blood pressure go down, not up?
Nancy Pierce Morgan, Director Emeritus of the Arts and Humanities Program at the Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center, has devoted her career to helping people over the ‘I hate writing’ threshold to – ‘Hey, this is fun!’ Through practice and research, she has contributed to evidence that suggests writing might be just what is needed to feel better. LOWLINC is offering a program on May 13…learn how expressive writing--the simple act of writing thoughts and feelings--contributes to health and wellbeing.
Participants will learn about the science behind this claim, hear stories of people who benefited from expressive writing, and time permitting, try an exercise or two. No special writing skills are needed to participate. Come find out if writing might just bring more joy and meaning to life.
This workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at 1:30 p.m. It will be presented via video conferencing, using the popular Zoom platform. LOWLINC is pleased to welcome all Lake of the Woods residents to its free Speaker Series.
